Meditation

Meditation is making love to the universe. It is uniting with God. It is uniting with Self

If you’re like most people, your mind keeps you busy jumping from thought to thought, emotion to emotion focusing on the past or future, never the present. The purpose of meditation is to shut down this useless internal chatter in order to access the truth or wisdom within.

What Happens During Meditation?
Deepak Chopra describes thoughts as a fog that distracts you from finding your way through it. He explains that to see across the street on a foggy day, you must wait for the fog to thin or lift. Occasionally a clear patch emerges and you get a peek at what lies ahead. The fog is synonymous to your thoughts. By quieting the mind you encounter moments of pure silence where you peek into the deeper level of the soul.

Do I have to sit in a lotus position to meditate?
No. Comfort is important especially in the new stages of your meditation practice. Of course not so comfortable that you’re falling asleep before you begin.

Choose a meditation space that is quiet, away from distractions as well as electrical gadgets and computers. Create a focal point, a shelf with objects or photographs that inspire you. Create a sanctuary that is peaceful and inviting to you.

How often should I meditate?
Incorporating your meditation practice into your daily routine is vital. If this is a new practice in your life, start with shorter meditation periods of 5 minutes a couple of times per day and build on that. As your meditation practice improves, your consciousness expands.
